Our Inspirational Journey to Barbados: Finding Creative Sparks for Jam+Rico
Hello, beautiful readers! 🌴✨
We recently embarked on an exciting adventure to the stunning island of Barbados, seeking inspiration for our next Jam+Rico jewelry collection. The island's vibrant culture, breathtaking scenery, and warm hospitality provided us with endless creative ideas. Here’s a detailed look at our itinerary and the highlights of our trip. Here is our itinerary below for our trip.
Monday
Our team arrived in Barbados after a 5 hour flight from NYC. We checked around 11pm into The Crane, our luxurious and cozy home for the week, and took some time to organize and settle in, ready to kickstart our journey. A tip: If you arrive late in Barbados nothing is open to eat. Call ahead to your hotel to ask to order food. They will accommodate your request and hold your order until you arrive.
Tuesday
Morning:
Bright and early we headed back to the airport to rented a car. No need to book ahead of time we were able to negotiate a cheaper rate upon arrival. Once we got our car we were headed to the local grocery store at Emerald City Shopping Market. Here we were able to pick up breakfast, snacks and Bajan treats for our week long stay.
We met our photographer (who will later capture photos of our new collection inspired by the island) for a delightful brunch at Deia Beach. The serene beach setting was the perfect backdrop to start our day. The food and Rum Punch was excellent!! We highly recommend the coconut shrimp and cajan potato salad. Don't forget to bring your bathing suit so you can take a dip in the pool or Ocean!
Afternoon:
Took a break from work and visited Rihanna’s childhood house, soaking in the local history and culture. Explored Bridgetown, although it didn't quite meet our expectations. The locals suggested Hayman's Market for shopping local unique finds. Enjoyed an authentic Cutter a Bajan fish sandwich at Cuzz's Shack—an absolute must-try! We went back for seconds.
Evening:
We relaxed by The Crane’s pool and enjoyed a BBQ, which is only on Tuesday nights, unwinding and brainstorming ideas.
Wednesday
Morning:
We visited some exquisite stores to share our brand story and connect with buyers. We traveled to the west of the island and found many hidden gems.
Afternoon:
After a full morning of work we were ready to get a bite and Caboose was the best spot to do it! Caboose is a beach side restaurant built in an old ship. Their speciality is a Cutter, a Bajan fish sandwich. I got a loaded Cutter which included lettuce, tomato, a fried egg, Bajan pepper sauce and cheese.
Refreshed ourselves with smoothies at SunLife, a smoothie spot close to The Crane Hotel. All fruit was fresh from the island and the owner Vikki was a piece of sunshine. We went multiple times during our stay on the island.
Evening:
After a long day we decided to head back to the hotel. Attended a lively hotel party from at The Crane, mingling with other guests and enjoying the vibrant atmosphere.
Thursday
Morning:
Dedicated time to work, planning and organizing for our brand photoshoot.
Afternoon:
Conducted our brand photoshoot, capturing the essence of Barbados in our new collection.
Lunch:
Found the perfect spot for a shoot and lunch was right there. Curry Chicken, rice and peas and veggies were on the menu. Go check out Bay Tavern in Martins Bay, St. John.
Afternoon:
Explored the beautiful East Coast, taking in the scenic views and charming locales.
Evening:
Dined at LeShack, a perfect end to a productive day. The surf and turf special was divine! Also the Vibe is perfect!!
Friday
Lunch:
Enjoyed a meal at Dis Ole House, savoring the local flavors. Here I was able to try the traditional dish of the island, Flying Fish and Cou-Cou. Also had the BEST Rum Punch!! This meal is one you CANNOT MISS!
Afternoon: Lisette went on a resort tour and dinner.
Evening: Experienced the vibrant Oistins Fish Fry at 7 PM, a lively event filled with music, food, and fun.
Saturday
Morning:
Spent a relaxing day at the beach, soaking up the sun and sea.
Had an evening flight back.
Our time in Barbados was truly inspiring. The island’s beauty and culture will be reflected in our upcoming Jam+Rico collection, capturing the essence of our unforgettable trip.
Stay tuned for sneak peeks and updates on our Barbados collection!
